A Greenville developer has bought the 1960s-era Lakewood Shopping Center south of downtown Durham in a foreclosure sale this month and is planning to revitalize the property.

This will be the first Publix location in the Eastern North Carolina market. Renovations by developer Brodyco are currently underway at Greenville Square, which include a new façade, parking lot, lighting package and landscaping.

A large, publicly traded real estate investment trust has bought Mayfaire Town Center and Mayfaire Community Center. "We've completed all but one phase in the development of Mayfaire and have accomplished what we set out to achieve," Brody said in the news release.
